1 in 5 employees admit to using AI in job interviews: report

One in five employees in the United States have confessed to using artificial intelligence during job interviews, as they believe that doing so has become the norm, according to reports.

Anonymous community application Blind recently surveyed 3,617 “verified” professionals to find that 20% of the respondents have secretly used AI tools during job interviews.

This comes as 55% agreed that doing so has become the new norm, according to the poll, as reported by The Indian Express.

By organisation, the report found that some firms have a higher-than-average share of professionals secretly using AI during interviews. They include:

  • Intuit
  • Uber
  • Block
  • Bloomberg
  • Broadcom
  • DoorDash
  • Pinterest
  • Tesla Motors
  • Apple
  • Intel Corporation

According to the report, these organisations showed a lower average employee tenure of 44.9 months as of March 2025. This is shorter by 2.4 months compared to the average employee tenure of 47.3 months for firms with a lower share of professionals secretly using AI during interviews.

“Interviews just need to get with the times. It’s using the tools at your disposal to solve problems the same way you will solve them on the job,” an employee from Intuit said in the report.

But an employee from Amazon highlighted the disadvantages of hiring people “who have cheated” during interviews.

“They were so low-skilled on the job and dragged their feet for six months before resigning,” the Amazon employee said.

Use of AI in recruitment
The findings reflect the growing use of artificial intelligence in workplaces, even during the job search.

Data from Capterra last year revealed that 40% of employees are using AI to write or refine their résumé, while another 33% said they are using it to improve their cover letter.

Some 31% of the respondents also said they use it for mock interviews, while 28% said they use it to generate interview answers.

In the wake of this development, Capterra previously advised jobseekers to quickly “draw their line in the sand on what constitutes AI fair play.”

“Those that then combine the right AI detection tools with critical recruiting processes and culture changes will have a clear advantage in identifying and hiring truly talented candidates,” the report read.

Some employers have started carrying out some new approaches to detect and prevent AI use by interviewees during job interviews. An employee from Amazon shared that interviews in their organisation ask candidates to adjust the camera to show their hands.

“It’s very obvious that someone is cheating if you see them typing but no code is being written on the screen,” the employee said.

Another Amazon employee revealed the consequences of such actions.

“I have seen a few candidates cheating. Now they are banned from Amazon. If things continue this way, we’ll just fly them here to code on the whiteboard,” the employee warned.
