Gone are the days when people used to get 9 to 5 work shifts at their offices. For most people, the ugly and tiring truth is that most companies DO NOT allow their employees to leave at 5 PM. In fact, most of the Indian working population who work for foreign-based companies hardly leave before 9, as their shift starts from 12. Highlighting something similar and dubbing the same as a root cause of a ‘bad work-life balance’, a man ranted about the ‘reality of IT jobs’. Taking to Reddit, the man stated that working after 6 or 7 PM gets tiring for him as his brain ‘shuts off’. His being a ‘morning person’ is another reason why he often face a disrupted work-life balance with his 12 to 9 work shift.
Pointing out how most of these shifts are based on ‘US or UK timings’, the man raised questions over ‘ONLY Indian employees’ sacrificing their leisure hours due to the time difference.
The post began to float online, drawing multiple reactions. Most agreed with the Redditor, while some suggested that he switch to an India-based organisation. Times Now could not confirm the details or the authenticity of the post.
“These US/UK shifts are responsible for making work life balance bad,” the post read.
“I don’t know why people keep saying 9-to-5 jobs. In reality these IT jobs are 12 to 9. I am a morning person and i dont like working after 6pm or max 7 pm. I would like to be free after 7 and enjoy the night time relaxing with friends or family. Also after 6pm my brain starts shutting off. But as the standup calls are scheduled at 8:30 pm you have to stretch. And as we all know how these standups go from 30 mins to 1hrs to sometimes even 1.5 hrs. This is what makes the wlb bad in most companies. Why is it only the Indian people who need to adjust? Why can’t these offshore people login early? Man, I am fed up with changing companies due to this issue. How do u guys handle this,” the post further read.

“We are still colonized,” a user said. “My last job was from 1.30 PM to 10.30 PM. Left the job in less than 6 months. A head full of hair is much more worthy than what any company can pay me,” commented a second person.
“Agree with you on that point. But at least they treat us with respect. Have heard concerning things about Indian companies and their managers where WLB is not even a term in their dictionary,” commented a third person.
“Work in teams where there is greater ownership in India and entire programs are driven from here,” added a fourth user. “My dream job would be one that aligns with Japanese working hours, ideally starting at 6 am IST,” added another.
