A Reddit post questioning why employees remain with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) for more than 10 years has triggered a wave of responses from the users. While concerns about stagnant salaries and limited exposure to new technologies were raised, many argued that stability, comfort, and onsite opportunities are the real reasons people choose to stay.
The person who posted the question also shared the details of knowing someone in TCS. The user wrote, “A close relative of mine has been working in TCS for the last 22+ years. I did ask him why he didn’t switch and why he was working so long in the same company. He replied that the manager was nice, got an on-site opportunity as well, and didn’t need to leave henceforth. This relative of mine started with a mainframe then to SQL, and finally works in some BU handling client communication.”
Comfort Over Change
Several responses highlighted how financial stability and overseas opportunities keep employees tied to TCS. One Redditor wrote: “My cousin joined TCS in 2007, went onsite after 2 years, he was onsite for more than 10 years and invested his earnings very wisely in India. He still works in TCS to this day. He is in a very comfortable position, so he does not need to switch. I guess a lot of the people who stay in TCS are living a comfortable life and see no need to change that.”
Another echoed similar reasons: “I have been working with TCS for 12 plus years, wanted to switch earlier, but onsite is what is keeping me, in Europe for the past 7-8 years, good work life balance.”
The Role of Job Security
For others, job security outweighs higher salaries or new opportunities. A user explained: “I have seen many such people during my tenure in TCS. Simple answer is they have adjusted to the comfort and cannot crack any interview outside of TCS. Especially it’s difficult for Mainframe guys. They don’t mind about the low wages. They are more worried about Job security and always prefer to play safe by staying in TCS.”
The thread paints a mixed picture of long-term careers at TCS — while some employees stay for comfort and stability, others remain out of fear of uncertainty outside. Either way, it highlights why one of India’s largest IT employers continues to retain staff for decades.
