‘Amazon is a capitalistic cult,’ Employee claims Amazon is asking its workers to look for new jobs and ‘fearlessly embrace uncertainty’

The global technology sector is experiencing a major transformation in 2025. According to the latest data from Layoffs.fyi, more than 80,945 employees have been laid off across 179 tech companies this year.

These layoffs are not just a result of cost-cutting measures, but it indicates a broader shift in how the tech industry operates, hires, and plans for the future.

Big tech companies, in particular, have been hit hard by these layoffs, impacting a large number of workers. One social media post from an Amazon employee throws light on the company’s approach to layoffs.

The employee shared how Amazon took a 5-day offsite and returned with a new guiding principle, “fearlessly embrace uncertainty.”

What does the post explain?

According to the post, an SDM, Software Development Manager shared that their organisation recently held a 5-day offsite retreat and returned with a new guiding principle: “Fearlessly embrace uncertainty.”

The user was taken aback by this new mantra, calling it “cringe and dystopic,” and questioned if Amazon was becoming some sort of “capitalistic cult.”

In the same post, they revealed that Amazon is reportedly planning 10% workforce cuts, along with performance improvement plans (PIPs) for many employees.

Fresh managers have apparently started advising teams to look for new roles within the company, and sources suggest that the Games division could be next in line for layoffs.

Additionally, L6+ non-technical individual contributors (ICs) are also said to be on the chopping block.

‘The most heartless company ever’

Netizens also posted their opinion on the post. A user noted, “Kid you not, this is the most heartless company ever.”

Another added, “Should actually be “Compartmentalize fear and execute efficiently.”

“The worst thing is that Amazon creates an army of brainwashed minions that spread the toxic culture of zero compassion like missionaries all across tech,”added a netizen.

“Capitalism just rewards success. To those who have, more will be given,” opined another.” I’ve been here a decade and watched Amazon decline in every way because of it. The poison must be contained, so leave it behind as you exit,” added another.
