How a Bengaluru Techie Used ChatGPT To Crack 7 Job Interviews In Just Two Months

Artificial intelligence is transforming how people navigate the job market, and Amar Saurabh, a former product manager at Meta and TikTok, has proven just how powerful it can be. Using ChatGPT, he built a custom GPT in under two hours to supercharge his job search, leading to multiple top-tier offers before he ultimately accepted a lead product manager role at PayPal. His story highlights how AI can be leveraged not as a threat to jobs, but as a powerful tool to land them.

Amar Saurabh, who holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer and Information Sciences from B.M.S. College of Engineering and a Master’s in Product Management from Carnegie Mellon University, had spent five years working at Meta and TikTok before deciding to look for a more stable role in the U.S. Starting his job hunt in April, he initially managed only a handful of interviews, which led him to experiment with creating his own custom GPT to improve his results.

Initially, Saurabh tried using regular ChatGPT to help personalize his outreach messages to recruiters, but the responses were often generic or inconsistent. Realizing that his chatbot was overloaded with various unrelated prompts, from travel plans to recipes, he decided to build a specialized version called “PM job search advisor.” Using the paid $20/month version of ChatGPT, he uploaded his résumé, LinkedIn profile, and project details, training the GPT to specifically focus on senior product management roles.

Once configured, the custom GPT helped Saurabh craft personalized LinkedIn connection requests, identify the right contacts and recruiters, and tailor his résumé for each job description using relevant keywords. It even prepared him for interviews by mapping his experience to potential questions based on job descriptions. The result was transformative: while the number of applications he sent stayed the same, his response rate skyrocketed, landing him interviews with major firms like Reddit, Intuit, and PayPal within two months.

Although the GPT occasionally forgot some of his personal details, Saurabh likened the experience to “talking to a person” and found it a minor inconvenience compared to its benefits. Pleased with how efficiently it streamlined his job search, he said he would definitely use it again if he re-entered the market. His next goal? Enhancing his “PM job search advisor” GPT with agentic capabilities, so it could automatically apply for jobs and even answer application questions on his behalf.
