ChatGPT company releases list of work tasks it can already replace

Within only two years, artificial intelligence (AI) has become more than just a script-writing tool; it’s become part of our daily lives.

This digital and technological innovation has many benefits, but people have shared their reservations.

As writers in the US have made it very clear, artificial intelligence will not be replacing them anytime soon.

There are other industries where employees are feeling threatened by AI and scared that they will lose their jobs to AI.

The job market is a struggle as it is, but what happens when you aren’t just competing against other humans?

AI expert Dr Roman Yampolskiy recently appeared on the hit podcast ‘Diary of a CEO’ hosted by Steven Bartlett and had a serious warning.

When discussing AI in the workforce, he warned that by 2027, there will be artificial general intelligence, coupled with the development of functional humanoid robotics, which would render hiring humans for most jobs redundant.

Now, OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, have thrown its two cents in.

OpenAI recently released its new evaluation called GDPval.

ccording to the company, GDPval will measure how well its AIs perform “economically valuable, real-world tasks across 44 occupations.”

OpenAI notes that people often speculate about the broader impact AI will have on society, but suggests that the best way to understand AI’s potential is to examine what these models are currently capable of.

Evaluations like GDPval help ground conversations about future AI improvements in evidence rather than guesswork, and can help us track model improvement over time.

With many questioning the longevity of AI, this is the best attempt to date to justify the financial viability of AI models.

Futurism contributor Victor Tangermann writes: “Experts have often criticized the company’s boastful marketing, such as CEO Sam Altman claiming that its GPT-5 model had achieved “PhD-level” intelligence.”

What has GDPval found?

  • Current best frontier models are already approaching the same level and quality of work as industry experts.
  • Of the 44 occupations, it found that AI could have the highest impact on real-world productivity in the following professions: real estate sales agents, social workers, industrial engineers, software developers, lawyers, registered nurses, customer service representatives, pharmacists, private detectives, and financial advisors.
  • The specific tasks range from creating a competitor landscape for last-mile delivery (financial analyst) to assessing skin lesion images (registered nurse) and designing a sales brochure for a real estate agent.
  • OpenAI’s ChatGPT competitor Anthropic’s Claude Opus 4.1 is the best-performing model, followed by GPT-5.
  • The more powerful GPT-5-high was rated better or on par with deliverables from industry experts just over 40% of the time.
  • GPT-4o scored only 13,7%.

There’s no doubt that OpenAI is carefully treading around the subject of AI replacing human jobs.

Their current message is still that AI will support people in their everyday work, rather than replacing anyone with it.

Most importantly, this is an AI analysis done by one of the leading AI companies, so take it with a grain of salt.
