India’s information technology sector experienced a notable 16 per cent increase in hiring in 2025, according to a new industry report, reflecting sustained demand for digital skills amid rapid technological transformation.
The report highlights that organisations across tech, fintech, ecommerce and digital services have stepped up recruitment, particularly for roles in artificial intelligence, cloud computing, data analytics and cybersecurity. This uptick underscores how companies are prioritising capabilities that support digital transformation agendas and future-ready operating models.
Unlike earlier cycles where bulk hiring focused on general IT support, current recruitment patterns show a marked shift toward specialised and advanced tech roles, signalling that employers are actively building talent pipelines to match evolving business imperatives.
Industry analysts say the growth is being driven by a combination of factors, including the acceleration of digital products and services, heightened investments in technology infrastructure, and a competitive push to harness emerging technologies for strategic advantage.
The report also notes that tier-2 and tier-3 cities have seen increased participation in IT hiring, as companies expand their geographic footprint and tap into a broader talent base. Remote and hybrid work models continue to support this decentralisation of opportunity.
Despite the strong overall trend, some employers report challenges in filling highly specialised positions, citing a gap between current workforce skills and market expectations. This has intensified the emphasis on upskilling and reskilling programmes that enable professionals to transition into high-demand tech fields.
