A worker who spent months unemployed before finally securing a new job says his offer was suddenly rescinded just days before he was due to start, even after he had already sold his house to relocate for the role.
The story, shared on Reddit, has sparked a wave of reactions from users discussing the risks of major life decisions tied to job offers, particularly in an era of volatile hiring and layoffs.
A Long Job Hunt Ends — Briefly
According to the post, the worker had originally been laid off around July or August 2025. After roughly five to six months of unemployment, he eventually secured a new role in a different city.
The job offered higher pay than his previous position and appeared to mark a turning point after months of uncertainty.
“Higher pay than last job,” he wrote, adding that the opportunity seemed promising enough to justify relocating.
The move was significant: the distance meant he and his family decided to sell their home in preparation for the transition.
The Offer Disappears
