An Indian software engineer has gone viral after revealing how he secured a high-paying international job offer worth Rs 1.8 crore, without initially leaving the country or relying on overseas connections. His story is now striking a chord with aspiring tech professionals who often believe global roles require relocation or strong networks abroad.
Kartik Modi, shared his journey in an Instagram post, highlighting how a disciplined and structured approach helped him break into the global job market. He noted that while the hiring process was entirely remote, he later moved to the UK after accepting the offer.
CAN YOU LAND A GLOBAL JOB WITHOUT RELOCATING ABROAD?
Modi believes it is absolutely possible. He emphasised that instead of focusing on relocation or networking overseas, candidates should concentrate on building the right skills and executing a clear plan. “No relocation. No network abroad. Just execution from my room,” he shared, underlining the power of consistency and preparation.
HOW DID HE IDENTIFY THE RIGHT OPPORTUNITIES TO APPLY FOR?
Rather than applying randomly, Modi began by creating a targeted list of 25–30 international companies.
He specifically filtered roles that offered visa sponsorship and used platforms such as LinkedIn Jobs, Indeed, and Levels.fyi to refine his search.
By analysing 35 to 40 job descriptions, he identified recurring skill requirements and built his preparation strategy around them.
WHAT WAS HIS PREPARATION STRATEGY AND TIMELINE?
Modi followed a focused 10–12-week plan instead of an unstructured approach. He dedicated the first five weeks to mastering data structures and algorithms (DSA), solving around 100 carefully selected problems.
His emphasis was on understanding patterns and being able to clearly explain solutions, rather than just increasing the number of problems solved.
WHY DID SYSTEM DESIGN AND REAL-WORLD EXPERIENCE MATTER SO MUCH?
According to Modi, system design played a crucial role in cracking interviews. He prepared key concepts by working on 8–10 core systems such as authentication, payments, search, and notifications.
He also highlighted his professional experience by documenting real-world projects, focusing on aspects like scalability, latency, and decision-making.
WHAT ROLE DID RESUME BUILDING AND MOCK INTERVIEWS PLAY?
To align with global hiring standards, Modi created a concise, one-page resume that showcased measurable impact, avoiding lengthy or traditional formats. He also completed multiple mock interviews to identify weaknesses and improve communication.
During actual interviews, he focused on structured thinking and clarity.
Modi ultimately secured an international offer worth Rs 1.8 crore, proving that a systematic approach can outweigh shortcuts or hacks. His story serves as a reminder that with the right preparation, global opportunities are accessible, even without stepping outside the country at the start.
