Amid reports of large-scale layoffs at Oracle affecting tens of thousands of employees globally, many professionals have turned to social media platform X to share their experiences and search for new opportunities. But one story, in particular, has stood out, not for job hunting, but for a complete career shift.
A tech professional, who had spent nearly a decade at Oracle, has decided to leave the IT industry altogether and take up farming after being laid off. The story surfaced through an X post by user Vanesh Mali, which quickly gained traction online.
In his post, Mali described his friend’s journey in detail. He wrote that the individual had been earning a salary of ₹37 lakh per annum and had dedicated 10 years to the company, contributing consistently to its growth. Despite this, the layoff came abruptly, with no prior notice or even a conversation.
Sharing his friend’s reaction, Mali wrote, “One of my friend got laid off from Oracle. Worked for the company for 10 years. Given his 100%. And what he got after 10 years – immediate termination without any notice or call.”
However, what surprised many was the employee’s response. Instead of frustration or panic, he reportedly embraced the change with calm acceptance. Mali quoted him as saying:
“I am fine with this. Actually I am happy. Now I will not work for any IT company. I will focus on farming.”
According to the post, the former employee had made prudent financial decisions during his corporate career, allowing him to step away from the industry without stress. He now plans to support his family and assist his father in agricultural work, marking a significant lifestyle shift.
Internet calls it ‘aspirational move’
The post quickly went viral, sparking widespread discussion about layoffs, financial independence, and alternative career paths. Many users praised the individual’s mindset and preparedness.
One user remarked that while layoffs are often seen as setbacks, this case reflected a “forced reset” that allowed someone to reclaim control over their time and priorities. Another said it highlighted the importance of building savings and financial security to withstand sudden job losses.
Several others described the move as aspirational, calling it a rare example of someone stepping away from the “rat race” on their own terms. Another comment noted that choosing farming and family over corporate life required courage and conviction.
