A Pune-based techie has shared his thoughts on work and growth in corporate life, offering a different view on what really helps people move ahead. His post talks about how working long hours does not always lead to success.
He introduced himself simply and spoke about what he has seen around him at work. His message focuses on how effort alone may not be enough if people do not notice the work being done.
He Shares His Take On Work Culture
In his Instagram post, he wrote, “This is Rohit, your usual 9to5 corporate guy working in tech.” He then explained that what he was about to say might not sound right at first. “I know this sounds wrong. But hear me out. I’ve seen people work the longest hours and still get skipped. And others work smarter and move ahead faster. Here’s why,” he added.
He then listed a few points to explain his thinking. “Hard work is expected, not rewarded. It keeps things running. It doesn’t make you stand out.” He also spoke about how being seen at work matters. “Visibility decides perception. If people don’t know your impact, they assume it’s average.”
Why Visibility And Clarity Matter More
Rohit further explained that promotions are not just about how much effort someone puts in. “Promotions are about readiness, not effort. You need to show you can handle the next level. Not just your current role.” He added that simply staying busy does not always help. “Being busy is easy to ignore. Being impactful is hard to ignore.”
Talking about clarity, he wrote, “Clarity beats effort. When your work clearly moves something forward, it gets noticed.” He ended his post by saying, “Hard work still matters. But without visibility and direction, it stays invisible.”
Many people agreed with his points and shared their own stories. “I 100 per cent agree with you on this. I recently got lower than expected band just because my visibility was less, manager assumed I lack ownership. I was putting in long hours but visibility matters more than hard work,” a user wrote.
Another simply said, “Nice bro,” while several others reacted with heart and fire emojis, showing support for his views.
