Bengaluru techie says he is 'most productive when alone'. Internet weighs in

A Google employee in Bengaluru has sparked an online debate after sharing that living alone has made him more productive, with many people weighing in on whether solitude really improves focus.

The conversation began when Priyansh Agarwal posted on X about his experience of living by himself for nearly a year. Instead of framing it as a lifestyle choice, he described it as something that changed the way he works. According to him, being alone helps him stay focused because there are fewer distractions and no need to adjust to someone else’s routine.

“I have realised that I am the most productive when I am completely alone I don’t get distracted by what others are doing,” he wrote.

He also spoke about the financial side of living alone. While rent is higher, especially in a city like Bengaluru, he said the extra cost doesn’t feel as heavy because his overall spending has gone down. “It comes at a cost of having to pay a higher rent but that gets nullified with the money I save as I don’t go out as much,” he added.

His post quickly picked up attention online, with many users relating to his experience. Some agreed that having your own space can help build discipline and reduce interruptions, especially for those who struggle to focus in shared environments.

At the same time, others pointed out that this isn’t a one-size-fits-all situation. For some people, being around others can actually improve motivation and prevent isolation. A few users also noted that productivity depends more on personal habits than living arrangements, and that people adapt differently to quiet or busy environments.
