Agartala, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Tuesday said 17,554 government posts of different categories were filled up through a transparent appointment policy during the past seven years.

While addressing a programme of distribution of appointment letters of constables, he said his government has taken steps to bridge the gap in the state police force.

“A total of 17,554 posts of different categories were filled up till March 2025 from 2018 in the government workforce. Besides, as many as 4,499 vacant posts were also absorbed from February 5 to April 13, 2025.

” All these recruitments have been done by implementing 33 per cent reservation for women”, he said.

The chief minister, who ceremonially distributed a few appointment letters of constables – male and female out of a total of 975, said the cabinet has already approved filling up of another 916 constable posts.

Asserting that law and order is the priority of the government, the chief minister said steps have been taken to appoint 6,967 special executives at the earliest.

Saha said initiatives have been taken to appoint 218 sub-inspectors because the government wants to strengthen the police force.

Allaying the unemployed about their future, he said there is no need to hit the streets demanding jobs in the government sector because the government is working to take the ‘right decision at the appropriate time’.

Claiming that the law and order situation in the state is well-managed, the CM said, “Tripura stands at eighth place from the bottom among 28 states of the country when it comes to crime graph. The state stood at 8th place from the bottom in terms of crime against body while recording the lowest in crime against properties in 2024.

Saha highlighted the success of law enforcement agencies, including the state police, in the seizure and destruction of drugs in the last year.

“We have shown a zero tolerance policy to smuggling of drugs. The state has shown a phenomenal success in seizure of drugs as it recorded a 106 per cent increase in 2024 compared to 2023. A record 132 per cent has been hiked when it comes to destruction of drugs and other contraband items during the period,” he said.

The CM, who holds the Home portfolio, revealed he kept reviewing the status of NDPS cases on a regular basis to check the menace.

“I review the status of NDPS cases with lawyers and police on a regular interval to ensure no persons involved in such cases secure bail or skip punishment”, he said.

Saha also stated the vigil along the international border has been enhanced by the law enforcement agencies with a 136 per cent increase in arrest of illegal Bangladeshis or foreigners in 2024 compared to 2023.
