A Delhi-based techie set X on fire after claiming he bagged a Rs 45 lakh per annum job offer, just a year after starting his career at Rs 5.5 LPA with IBM.
Cracking a massive salary jump within a year is not something one hears every day, and that’s exactly why software developer Devesh’s X post turned heads.
In his post, he said, “I started my full-time career last year at IBM with just a CTC of Rs 5.5 LPA, and now have an offer of over Rs 45 LPA CTC in hand within a year.”
Calling it a dream for someone from a middle-class background, he added, “For a middle-class guy like me, it’s still a dream.”
The post left the internet in disbelief, which prompted Devesh to share more. He stressed that early career professionals should focus on experience over high salaries. “In starting of your career, prioritise job over money. If you are not getting a good package, just enter with low and work so hard that you take a massive jump,” he advised in another post.
He also addressed doubts about the scale of his jump. “Those people who have a doubt like how is it possible to directly jump from CTC like Rs 5–6 LPA to Rs 45 LPA the MAANG or FAANG companies have their base pay and CTC preset. So it’s similar for everyone. They won’t judge you on your previous pays,” he explained.
Social media had mixed feelings. While several users congratulated him, others weren’t sold on the idea that such a leap could happen without connections or insider help.
“45 LPA offer within a year? That’s incredible. Can you share some tips?” a user said, another added, “How do you negotiate? Any recruiter looking at your current Rs 5.5 LPA would say, ‘We can give you an increment of 25% max’. How did you convince them?”
One of the users even cast doubt entirely, saying, “What did you do to get such a hike? Seems unreal.”
However, several others took the story as motivation and called it “inspirational,” and wished Devesh continued success.
While sceptics asked questions, Devesh stuck to his narrative. For now, the techie’s post stands as an example that dream salary jumps may not be common, but they’re not impossible either.
