'TCS is my treasure': Ex-employee credits tech giant for transforming his life, says he owes everything to it

A former employee of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has publicly expressed his gratitude to the Indian IT services giant, saying it transformed his life and laid the foundation for his successful career and personal milestones. Vinay Sriram, who now works as a Test Lead for the Reserve Bank of Australia, said that everything he has achieved professionally stems from his first job at TCS.

“Whatever little I have today in life I owe it to TCS,” Sriram wrote in a heartfelt post on X (formerly Twitter). The Sydney-based Indian-origin tech professional was responding to a post on the platform that praised TCS for helping to alleviate millions from poverty.

Sriram began his career at TCS as a Software Test Analyst. In a thread posted on X, he recalled the emotional moment when he told his father he had secured a job with the company. “I vividly remember my dad’s reaction when I said I got placed in TCS. (Though we were not a struggling family). It was one of those few moments where he hugged me and teared up at around 10 in the night when I returned home after my campus interview,” he said.

Though his family was financially stable—his father held a central government job—Sriram reflected on how a placement at TCS meant even more to those from underprivileged or marginalised backgrounds.

“If it meant that much to my dad, a central Govt servant with a decent salary, imagine what it would mean to 1st Gen graduates and their parents, students coming from towns and villages who had to face bigger battles like oppression to even get to a half decent college,” he wrote.

Sriram also credited TCS for providing him with international exposure that eventually led to him settling in Australia. “The opportunity to travel to Sydney, a place I dearly call my home today, is something TCS gave me,” he noted.

The techie revealed that while waiting for his date of joining at TCS, he assisted a junior student in preparing for her own TCS interview. Although she did not get selected and eventually joined Renault, the encounter led to a lasting personal relationship. “As a side note, a year later while waiting for my Date of Joining, by helping a junior with her TCS interview prep (Though she didn’t make it & ended up joining Renault) I eventually found the love of my life and ended up marrying her and have two beautiful kids with her,” he wrote.

Responding to the frequent criticism that TCS receives on social media platforms, Sriram defended the company by acknowledging its role in changing lives. “One man’s trash is another man’s Treasure,” he wrote, adding, “TCS is my treasure that gifted me the life I am living today.”
