After nearly a year of unsuccessful job hunting in the United States, an NRI software engineer with five years of backend Java development experience is preparing to return to India. Laid off nine months ago from his tech role, the developer has exhausted most of his savings and is now seeking opportunities in India, particularly in a tier-2 city.
On a Reddit post in a tech job community, the man shared his journey, revealing that he had reached the final rounds of interviews with several top tech companies but failed to secure an offer. Holding an H-1B visa, with his wife on H-4, he described the emotional and financial toll of the layoff, and asked for advice on job portals, referrals, and companies to target back in India.
“I’m moving back after 9 months of trying. No offers despite being a top-2 candidate multiple times. It’s draining, but I still have hope,” he wrote.
His post received an outpouring of support from fellow Redditors, many of whom had faced similar situations. One user commented, “Been through this myself. India might be tough initially, but you’ll find stability. Look into product-based companies in Bangalore or Hyderabad.” Another said, “Your U.S. experience matters—don’t undersell it.
