Amazon Layoffs Aren’t Over: 14,000 Jobs Already Cut in October, More Coming

Amazon has once again reduced jobs in Washington and this is beyond the 14,000 layoffs it announced globally in October. As per the report in Geekwire, the American giant is cutting 84 jobs, the filing with the State Department revealed. Amazon called it a “routine process” as the company engages in regular businesses reviews and make adjustments needed, the report claimed.

Amazon reportedly filed a notice with Washington state authorities after a new law required employers to disclose all layoffs occurring within 90 days of a prior notice under the state’s updated Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act.

“We’ve informed a relatively small number of employees that their roles will be eliminated as the result of individual business decisions,” said Amazon spokesperson Brad Glasser. “We don’t make decisions like this lightly,” he added, noting that the company is offering affected employees 90 days of full pay and benefits, along with transitional health coverage and job placement services.

Amazon Filing Details Upcoming Layoffs in Washington State

Amazon has scheduled employee separations between February 2 and February 23, 2026, spanning more than 30 office locations in Seattle and Bellevue, as well as six remote roles in Washington, according to a company filing with state authorities. The affected positions include software development engineers, program managers, recruiters, HR specialists, and UX designers, covering a spectrum from entry-level roles to directors and principals.

The filing noted that employees were first notified beginning in early November and have received at least 89 days’ advance notice, surpassing the 60-day minimum mandated under Washington’s updated Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act. Amazon also highlighted that employees who secure internal transfers before their separation date will not be impacted.

In October, the company revealed plans to cut 2,303 corporate jobs in Washington, primarily across Seattle and Bellevue offices. That disclosure, filed with the State Employment Security Department, provided the first detailed geographic breakdown of Amazon’s broader plan to eliminate 14,000 positions globally. The state filing listed impacted roles spanning software engineers, program managers, product managers, designers, and a notable number of recruiters and human resources staff.

The cuts were first announced on October 27 as part of CEO Andy Jassy’s ongoing efforts to streamline operations. Jassy had previously indicated in June that increased adoption of artificial intelligence tools would likely result in additional job reductions, particularly by automating repetitive and routine tasks. In a memo from HR chief Beth Galetti, Amazon also signalled that workforce reductions are expected to continue into 2026.
