In a disturbing case highlighting workplace toxicity, an employee of UCO Bank has accused his manager of fostering an environment of fear and insensitivity. The complaint, addressed to the bank’s top management and titled “Complaint Regarding Inhuman and Toxic Behavior by Zonal Head, Chennai – Request for Immediate Action,” has gone viral on social media.
According to screenshots circulating online, the Zonal Head has been accused of being dictatorial, abusive, and insensitive, allegedly denying leave requests even during critical family emergencies.
The complainant cited multiple instances, including:
• An employee allegedly denied leave following the death of his mother.
• A branch head denied leave when his one-year-old daughter was hospitalised, reportedly being told: “Are you a doctor? Why are you at the hospital? Go to the office immediately, or else I will mark LWP.”
• Another case where an officer’s request for leave to attend to his wife’s emergency hospitalisation was allegedly dismissed with derogatory remarks.
The allegations have sparked outrage on social media, with users sharing similar workplace experiences and calling for greater accountability. While these claims are yet to be independently verified by People Matters, they underline the urgent need for organisations to prioritise employee wellbeing and create psychologically safe workplaces where compassion is not compromised.
