An employee shared how he was allegedly fired just days before completing his notice period, and the HR’s reason led to discussions on workplace ethics, abrupt terminations, and whether companies misuse power when employees resigned.

The now-viral post, shared on the Reddit forum r/IndianWorkplace and titled, “Got fired just few days before my last working day,” came from a employee who said he had spent nearly two years working at a mid-sized finance company before resigning after landing an offer at a larger firm.

According to the employee, he had joined the company as a fresher and was responsible for providing critical support to a US-based client, even managing the account independently for an extended period.

He explained that things appeared to be going smoothly after he submitted his resignation and began serving his notice period. However, he claimed the situation suddenly changed just two days before his final working day, when HR allegedly informed him that he was being terminated.

Sharing his experience, the employee wrote that HR told him the reason behind the termination was that he had disclosed his retention salary to a colleague. However, when he asked for proof, he alleged that the company refused to provide any evidence, instead saying the matter was “confidential.”

He further shared that while his full and final settlement had already been completed, and he had since joined a new organisation, trouble resurfaced when he requested an experience letter from his former employer.

According to the post, HR allegedly informed him that instead of an experience certificate, they would only issue a termination letter.

The employee also claimed he tried escalating the matter internally by contacting his senior manager. Recalling the interaction, he said the manager told him he was “not a good employee” and accused him of “influencing people” before abruptly ending the call.

Concerned about whether the episode could affect future background verification despite already joining a new company, the employee turned to Reddit for advice, asking users if the termination could create problems later in his career.

The post received strong reactions online, with many users expressing frustration over what they described as unfair workplace practices.

Several commenters advised the employee to proactively inform his current HR team about the situation, suggesting that honesty during background verification would likely work in his favour.

One user argued that since the employee had already negotiated his date of joining and served notice, openly explaining that he was terminated just two days before leaving should not automatically raise suspicion.

Others focused on the legal angle, with some pointing out that if the allegations were true, the company should have followed due process before termination. Users suggested that proper disciplinary action typically requires formal notices, an opportunity for the employee to respond, and supporting proof from the employer.

Some reactions were far sharper, with a few users urging the employee to explore legal remedies. One user suggested sending a legal notice demanding an experience letter and compensation for alleged wrongful termination, while others criticised what they viewed as exploitative workplace behaviour, arguing that employees often invest years into companies only to be treated unfairly during exits.
