A Reddit post by a former Amazon employee has gone viral after he shared his struggles finding a new job nearly eight months after being laid off, highlighting concerns about the current state of the technology job market.
Posting on the r/Layoffs subreddit, the user revealed that he had worked at Amazon for seven years before being laid off in the fourth quarter of 2025. Despite initially feeling optimistic about his prospects, he said the job search has become increasingly difficult.
‘I am still job hunting’
“I was at Amazon for 7 years and got laid off in Q4 2025. It’s been around 8 months now and I am still job hunting,” he wrote.
According to the post, the situation did not appear too challenging immediately after the layoff. The former employee said he received interview calls from several well-known companies, including American Express, Agoda, Uber and Google, as well as several mid-sized firms.
“Right after the layoff, things honestly didn’t seem that bad. I was getting calls from places like American Express, Agoda, Uber, Google and a few mid sized companies too,” he wrote.
Rejected offers to focus on personal growth
However, the techie said he was rejected by most of those employers and eventually decided to take a short break from job hunting to focus on personal goals he had postponed for years.
The Reddit user now believes the employment landscape has changed significantly.
“Now the market feels completely different,” he wrote.
Sharing his frustration, he explained that he resumed applying for jobs in April but has not received any interview calls since then, despite repeatedly updating his resume and tailoring applications for different roles.
“I’ve rewritten my resume 4 to 5 times, made ATS friendly versions, tailored them for roles, and still nothing,” he said.
His post resonated with many users on the platform, with several sharing similar experiences of prolonged job searches, hiring freezes and increased competition in the technology sector.
Here’s how social media users reacted
The viral post has sparked discussion about the challenges faced by experienced professionals.
One user wrote, “I’m pretty sure Amazon would have given him enough severance to survive for next 2 years. Some of my friends got impacted too but the severance package was pretty good.”
Another user said, “Scary, if someone from Amazon is facing this, it’s really bad market out there.”
A third user said, “India will never develop until this job mentality is removed!”
