A Gurgaon CEO has triggered debate online after revealing a candidate’s unusual request; not for a job, but for a fake offer letter to strengthen an Ivy League MBA application.
Jasveer Singh, founder of KnotDating, posted the exchange on social media, expressing disbelief at what he described as a sense of entitlement. The candidate, who identified themselves as an MBA aspirant, reached out to Singh asking for an offer letter despite not being employed by the company.
“I am actually applying for an MBA I think I told you, so regarding that I wanted to check with you. If you can just give me an offer letter so that I can just show that I am working so that my profile can be a bit strong instead of showing unemployment. I have not worked since March and it might affect my application,” the message read.
Sharing the screenshot, Singh added his own commentary: “IIT grad, top consulting background, applying to Ivy League. Not working for a year. ‘Can you just give me an offer letter?’ The entitlement is insane. Impressive resume, embarrassing mindset. Degrees don’t fix character.”
The post quickly gained traction, with users weighing in from both sides. Some echoed Singh’s concern, arguing that the request crossed ethical lines by seeking a document that could misrepresent employment status.
Others, however, viewed it through a more empathetic lens, pointing to the intense competition surrounding admissions to elite institutions and suggesting that the candidate may have been acting out of desperation rather than entitlement.
A section of users even argued that in certain mentorship dynamics, informal support isn’t uncommon, though critics countered that fabricating official documents is a different matter altogether.
