How does a Rs 15,000 intern land a Rs 7.5 crore job at Google?

What does it take to turn a Rs 15,000 monthly internship into a reported Rs7.5 crore annual package at Google?

Entrepreneur and content creator Ankur Warikoo recently shared the story of a software engineer whose journey is now resonating widely across social media platforms, including Reddit and YouTube. It’s a reminder that in the tech world, career growth is often less about instant success and more about years of steady, focused effort.

The engineer began his career in a modest setup, working as an intern at a small company. At the time, the pay was low and opportunities were limited, but he stayed focused on improving his technical skills and building a strong foundation. That persistence eventually paid off when he landed a high-paying role at Google, reportedly with an annual compensation of Rs 7.5 crore.

A DISCIPLINED APPROACH TO BUILDING SKILLS

Warikoo noted that the engineer’s rise was driven by a highly structured preparation strategy. A key part of his routine involved solving nearly 500 coding problems on LeetCode, a platform widely used by developers to prepare for technical interviews and strengthen problem-solving abilities.

Alongside this, he contributed to around 12 open-source projects, gaining hands-on experience and collaborating with developers worldwide. These contributions helped him build both depth and credibility in his field.

Equally important was his decision to switch companies every couple of years. Each move exposed him to new challenges, better roles, and incremental salary growth, allowing him to steadily scale his career.

WARIKOO’S PERSPECTIVE ON CONSISTENT GROWTH

Ankur Warikoo, an alumnus of the Indian School of Business, has often spoken about long-term skill-building through his educational initiatives.

He founded WebVeda, an online learning platform focused on entrepreneurship, personal development, and career skills, which has attracted over 480,000 paid learners globally.

He has also launched the India Genius Challenge, a scholarship initiative aimed at supporting talented students across India with funding worth Rs 10 lakh.

The story highlights a familiar but powerful theme in career growth – success in the tech industry is rarely sudden. It is usually the result of consistent learning, disciplined practice, and making strategic career moves over time.
