Impersonation stunt inspired by Tamil film ‘Dragon’ lands tech hopeful in legal trouble
In a bizarre real-life twist echoing a scene from the Tamil movie Dragon, a young man from Telangana is now on the run after pulling off a job scam at Infosys in Bengaluru. Rapa Sai Prashanth, reportedly in his twenties, is facing legal action for impersonation and cheating after it was discovered that he had sent a friend to attend a virtual interview with Infosys on his behalf.
According to police and reports, Prashanth had applied for the role via a recruitment agency, which then facilitated his application with Infosys. While the documents submitted were genuine, Prashanth did not appear for the virtual interview himself. Instead, he allegedly asked a friend with better communication skills to attend in his place. The friend cleared the interview, and Infosys offered the job to Prashanth, who officially joined the company on January 20, 2025.
However, the ruse didn’t last long. Within two weeks of joining, Infosys staff noticed discrepancies in communication style and language fluency between the person they interviewed and the person now in the office. A review of screenshots from the interview confirmed the mismatch. When questioned, the truth came out.
Infosys terminated Prashanth’s employment and lodged a complaint with Adugodi police, who have now booked him under the Information Technology Act and Sections 318 and 319 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for cheating and impersonation.
Prashanth reportedly fled to Hyderabad after being sacked. In a brazen move, he even demanded payment for the 15 days he had worked at Infosys before being caught.
Police say they are continuing their efforts to trace him. “We’re trying to nab him,” confirmed an investigating officer.
The case has sparked wider discussions in tech circles and on social media, especially given its striking resemblance to the Dragon movie plot, where the protagonist sends a friend to a tech job interview to bypass academic disqualification.
So far, representatives from the recruitment agency have declined to comment, citing the ongoing police investigation.
