The employee was open about the uncertainty that now hangs over their career. The employee wrote, “I’m not looking for a referral,” expressing their concern about what they called a “shaky IT industry” following Oracle’s widespread layoffs around the world.
Oracle layoffs 2025
Oracle has so far laid off about 9,000 workers worldwide. The reductions have impacted workers across major locations, including the United States, India, Canada, and Mexico.
In Seattle alone, 262 jobs were cut, with an additional 101 expected to be let go in November. The layoffs hit especially hard in Oracle’s core tech divisions, with employees in engineering, cloud services, and software development feeling the brunt.
More than 250 workers have lost their jobs at California offices, including those in Pleasanton, Redwood Shores, and Santa Clara. Program managers, data scientists, and software developers were among the most severely impacted roles.
Many in the industry share the laid-off employee’s concerns as the layoffs continue to occur: the quick speed of technological advancements combined with growing operating expenses is causing an unstable environment that leaves workers unsure of their futures.
What does the post explain?
The post by the laid-off goes, “I was impacted by the recent layoffs at Oracle and I am NOT looking for a referral. Unlike many others on Blind I’m so sick and tired of tech and very burnt out. I think I’m going to be taking time off for some indefinite amount of time.”
It further added, “Honestly, I’m thinking of finding a different role or doing something entirely different. I don’t think I have it in me to continue on with this shaky industry. What do y’all think, Have you considered other roles or positions?.”
‘Don’t just give up’
Netizens posted their opinion, and experiences as their response. A user noted, “I do power washing, cleaning roof gutters and fixing cars on the side. Surprisingly, I enjoy doing it more than my day job. Find something you enjoy and you’ll never look back. Good luck!.”
Another joked, “You only got 2 options really, become a mushroom grower hippie or a crypto dude with lambo.” “I am jealous of you . People who can take time off,” wrote a user.
“Right there with you, so tired of grinding so they can buy another yacht or 5th house,” noted a netizen. “I don’t know man, surviving in any other field is kind of unimaginable. Consider any trades job, you get paid less and your body physically goes through a lot. If your body can take it you’ll work longer otherwise you’ll have to retire early. For us it’s easy, since it’s all about having proper mindset. Try to relax for few weeks then brush up your resume. What if this layoff never happened? would you’ve stopped working? So don’t let this bump stop you from retiring with good amount of savings,” advised another..
