Karnataka has emerged as the epicentre of India’s mid-market Global Capability Centre (GCC) growth, with centres in the state maturing 1.4 times faster than national peers, according to a study by the Karnataka Digital Economy Mission (KDEM) and consulting firm Zinnov.
The state houses 230 of India’s 480+ mid-market GCCs, employing more than 74,000 professionals. Bengaluru alone anchors nearly half of India’s mid-market GCC ecosystem, driving mandates in AI, cloud, and cybersecurity for global enterprises.
The report mentioned that over 40 per cent of Karnataka’s mid-market GCCs already drive end-to-end product ownership and leadership roles, a level of maturity that traditionally took a decade, now achieved in just three to five years.
Backed by the country’s first dedicated GCC Policy (2024-29) and the Beyond Bengaluru push, Karnataka continues to attract a disproportionate share of new centres. Nearly 65 per cent of all new mid-market GCCs in India since 2023 have been set up in the state, with emerging hubs like Mysuru, Mangaluru, Hubballi–Dharwad and Belagavi offering 15-25 per cent lower costs and attrition rates.
Mid-market GCCs now represent 27 per cent of India’s total GCC ecosystem and are increasingly seen as strategic innovation engines, driving AI-first growth, product management, and global leadership pathways for Indian talent.
“India today hosts over 480 mid-market GCCs, and Karnataka alone accounts for 230+ of them — nearly half of the national total. With more than 35 per cent of India’s GCC workforce based here, the state has emerged as both India’s largest hub and its most ambitious,” said Dr. Ekroop Caur, IAS, Secretary, Department of Electronics, IT, Bt & S&T, Government of Karnataka.
