MASSIVE Layoffs! Pink slips to 600 employees of THIS company - Check reason behind job cuts

London-based broadcaster Sky will cut around 600 jobs in the UK as part of a reorganisation following the rollout of new products and platforms, the company said on Tuesday.

900 roles affected

In total, about 900 roles will be impacted, with 600 jobs being scrapped, roughly 2.5% of Sky’s workforce, according to a report by Reuters. The restructuring comes after a three-year investment drive aimed at transforming operations.

Shift to digital-first services

Sky, owned by US cable giant Comcast , said it has invested heavily in new technologies including Sky Glass , its ultra-high-definition connected TV, the Sky Stream decoder, and fibre-based services. These products, now widely adopted by customers, have changed the way the business operates.

“As we look ahead, we are shifting our approach to bring customers the next generation of experience by investing in digital-first service, unbeatable content, and even better performance from our products,” a Sky spokesperson said in a statement, quoted by Reuters.

Focus on content and efficiency

With more than 90% of its TV subscriptions now sold via internet-based platforms rather than satellite, Sky said it will focus on making its services “faster, simpler and more reliable.” The company also plans to boost its content offering in entertainment and sports.

Job cuts in recent years

Since 2023, Sky has already cut about 3,000 roles, including engineers who installed satellite dishes and employees at three UK call centres that were shut down. The latest round of layoffs adds to those efforts as the group consolidates operations.

Comcast ownership

Sky, once part of Rupert Murdoch’s media empire, has been owned by Comcast since 2018. The broadcaster currently employs around 23,000 people in Britain.

Ford Motors Company to layoff 1,000 employees

In a separate development, American carmaker Ford Motor Company has decided to cut 1,000 jobs at its facility in Cologne, Germany, as part of its ongoing restructuring process. The layoffs will begin early next year, according to a report by Bloomberg.
