One In Four Corporate Employees At Risk Of Diabetes: MediBuddy Study

A new study by MediBuddy, India’s largest digital healthcare platform, has revealed an alarming rise in diabetes and pre-diabetes cases among corporate employees. The data, collected from health screenings, shows a consistent year-on-year increase, underscoring the urgent need for preventive healthcare and workplace wellness programmes.

Between August 2023 and July 2024, 7.89 per cent of employees screened were diabetic, while 19.38 per cent were pre-diabetic. The following year, from August 2024 to July 2025, the figures climbed to 8.85 per cent and 24.40 per cent, respectively. The 31 to 50 year-old age group carried the highest burden, though younger professionals aged 20 to 30 also recorded significant increases.

Gender trends indicated men were more affected than women across both years. Diabetes among men rose from 6.76 per cent to 7.43 per cent, with pre-diabetes rising from 14.64 per cent to 18.11 per cent. Among women, diabetes increased from 1.13 per cent to 1.42 per cent, and pre-diabetes from 4.74 per cent to 6.29 per cent.

Dr Gowri Kulkarni, Head of Medical Operations at MediBuddy, said, “The rising prevalence of diabetes and pre-diabetes, especially among working-age adults, is a wake-up call for corporate India. Beyond the personal health impact, unmanaged diabetes is one of the biggest contributors to hospital admissions, prolonged recovery times, and spiralling IPD costs. Early detection through regular screenings, coupled with sustained disease-management and lifestyle programmes, can significantly reduce the risk of costly complications.”

The report also warned that as diabetes advances, it places greater strain on employer-sponsored insurance and healthcare budgets due to increased hospitalisation needs. Preventive strategies, including regular screenings and customised lifestyle programmes, could not only reduce long-term medical costs but also safeguard employee health and productivity.
