Oracle employee survives 30,000 layoffs, now depressed for not getting salary hike in 3 years

An Oracle employee has shared a detailed post on Reddit describing growing frustration at work, citing a lack of salary hikes for over three years, increasing workload pressure, and mental exhaustion after surviving multiple rounds of layoffs. The post, shared on Reddit’s popular “r/employeesOfOracle” community, has sparked discussion among other employees who say they are facing similar conditions. Since India Today Tech couldn’t independently verify the claims, users are advised to take the details with a pinch of salt. Although the post has received good engagement and many supportive responses from users on the platform. It comes just a few days after Oracle laid off about 30,000 employees.

Oracle employee talks about zero salary hike, rising depression after surviving latest layoffs

In the Reddit post, the employee said he/she had been spared during recent layoff rounds but continued to deal with rising stress due to uncertainty and workload pressure. The individual noted that even after receiving internal recognition, including awards and a promotion, there had been no salary hike for over three years.

“It’s now been over 3 years without a salary hike,” the employee wrote, adding that the RSU structure feels less meaningful when job security itself remains uncertain.

The employee also described a decline in motivation and growing mental fatigue, saying even short tasks at work feel draining.

“Even after spending a mere 10 minutes on a task, I feel mentally drained,” the post stated.

They further explained that balancing daily work responsibilities with efforts to upskill for a potential job switch has become increasingly difficult, creating a cycle of pressure and declining performance. The employee also expressed regret about their career decision, saying the current situation feels far from what they had expected when joining the company.

“I now regret every day of my decision to choose Oracle over other offers I had at the time,” they wrote.

Other employees echo similar concerns online

The post prompted responses from several other Oracle employees and Reddit users, many of whom shared similar concerns around stagnant pay and increasing workload expectations. Some users said that salary growth has remained limited despite strong performance reviews and internal recognition, with raises often tied to external job opportunities rather than internal progression.

“High performer, high awards, zero compensation increases. But that’s the reality of working for Oracle,” a user said. Just after that comment, another Reddit user commented saying, “Man, you put exactly how I feel into words. Going to hit 5 years, this December and only last year did I get promoted with no hike,” one user quoted their manager as saying.

One of the users also said this approach has become common within teams, where employees are often advised to look outside the company for meaningful compensation increases. “Go get another offer, that’s the only way Oracle is going to do raises these days,” another user wrote.

Others highlighted frustration after layoffs, saying motivation has declined as workload pressure continues to rise without proportional rewards or recognition.

Separately, Oracle has been in the middle of a bigger workforce restructuring, with reports suggesting global layoffs affecting roles across engineering, operations, and program management teams. While official figures have not been confirmed, estimates indicate that 30,000 jobs have been impacted worldwide. Out of this, about 12,000 employees in India have been fired, according to PTI.

Interestingly, the news comes at a time when the company has been investing heavily in AI initiatives, with a BBC report claiming that Oracle executives previously stated AI-driven efficiency improvements are enabling teams to handle more work with fewer employees. However, the company has not publicly clarified whether these investments are directly linked to workforce reductions.
