Polish food retailer Eurocash plans to cut around 3,000 jobs

Eurocash on Tuesday unveiled a new strategy for 2026-2027 that will see it cut around 3,000 jobs and close 150 of its Delikatesy Centrum stores as it struggles with falling sales and tough competition. The Polish food retailer said the cuts would result in a restructuring charge of up to 300 million zlotys ($83 million).

WHY IT’S IMPORTANT The restructuring is crucial for Eurocash to reverse a trend of declining sales amid fierce competition from discounters like Dino Polska and Jeronimo Martins’ Biedronka. The Eurocash group has previously cited rising costs, including from minimum wage hikes as key challenges.

BY THE NUMBERS The company will book one-off write-downs and restructuring provision of 200-300 million zlotys in its 2025 financial year. Eurocash expects the changes to deliver cost savings of 400 million zlotys during the 2026-2027 period. It is targeting earnings before interest and taxation (EBIT) of 600 million zlotys in 2027.
