The Odisha government on Wednesday projected the state as an emerging powerhouse in the field of artificial intelligence, highlighting plans for a sovereign AI hub that is expected to transform its economic landscape over the next five years.
According to a The Times of India report, the proposed facility will be supported by an investment of Rs 20,000 crore from Sarvam AI and is estimated to generate around 5,000 highly skilled employment opportunities.
Speaking at the India AI Impact Summit in New Delhi, Additional Chief Secretary (Electronics & IT) Vishal Kumar Dev presented Odisha’s vision during a session titled ‘Democratisation of AI — Bharat Story’. He elaborated on the state’s long-term roadmap for AI adoption and its potential applications across multiple sectors, including governance, industry, healthcare, education and agriculture.
Dev said the AI hub would require specialised expertise to manage and operate advanced AI-driven infrastructure. He noted that the initiative is designed not only to accelerate Odisha’s technological capabilities but also to position the state as a significant contributor to India’s broader AI ecosystem.
According to him, the creation of thousands of high-value jobs will have a multiplier effect, benefiting both the regional economy and the national technology landscape.
The government believes that strategic investments in digital infrastructure and talent development will help Odisha emerge as a competitive destination in the global AI arena.
