Samsung has announced the expected annual employee bonus rates across its business divisions for 2025. Employees in the semiconductor and smartphone divisions will get significant bonuses. This shows that Korean firms’ key businesses are recovering strongly after recent challenges.
Samsung DS and MX divisions will pay high annual bonuses for 2025
According to a report from BusinessKorea, employees in the Device Solutions (DS) division will receive 43% to 48% of their annual salary as an Over Performance Incentive (OPI). Meanwhile, employees in the Mobile eXperience (MX) division will receive bonuses of up to 50%. Likewise, the Visual Display (VD) and Digital Appliances (DA) divisions may give 9% to 12%. Speaking of subsidiaries, Samsung Display will offer 32% to 36% while Samsung Electro-Mechanics will pay 5% to 7%.
For the uninitiated, OPI is a performance-based bonus paid once a year. The company calculates the rate based on how much a division surpasses the targets set at the beginning of the year. The maximum bonus rate is 50% of an employee’s annual salary. It is also limited to 20% of a division’s excess profits.
Samsung’s DS division has experienced notable changes in recent years. In 2023, the division suffered losses, resulting in OPI being 0% for the first time. However, as the business began to recover in 2024, that year saw the OPI increase to 12% to 16%. This year’s sharp rise to 43% to 48% is mainly because of the solid performance in the general-purpose DRAM and high-bandwidth memory (HBM) sectors. As demand for these memory products continues to increase, the DS division should maintain strong performance in 2026.
Meanwhile, the MX division continues to perform well. The division saw the maximum allowed OPI (50%), suggesting solid smartphone sales and profits. Samsung also announced second-half TAI payouts, a twice-yearly bonus. For the second half of 2025, employees in the Memory Business Division and Semiconductor Research Institute will receive 100% of a month’s salary. Likewise, employees in the System LSI & Foundry division will get a 25% bonus.
