The ‘toxicity level’ of the corporate culture in India has seemingly reached a point where India’s working population ended up coining a term to describe certain organisations- where almost anything happens in the name of ‘rules and regulations’; Lala Company. Social media is full of posts and stories where frustrated employees rant about their ‘Lala company culture’ on a daily basis. Adding another to the list, yet another questioning exchange between an employee and his boss was shared online, which ended up reminding netizens of the infamous ‘Lala companies’. Taking to Reddit, the employee shared a screenshot of the texts he had with his boss. As per the Reddit post, the man had messaged his boss for a leave– allegedly due to a severe stomach ache. However, the way the manager handled the matter, left the employee second-guessing his continuation in the said company.
As seen in the Reddit post, the boss began the message by sympathising with the employee- however, he soon started asking him to coordinate the work from home, despite an approved leave. The Redditor further shared that it ‘felt’ like the boss was ‘indirectly’ asking him to work from home.
Times Now could not confirm the authenticity of the post.
As soon as the post went viral, most netizens suggested that the Redditor leave the organisation, while some advised him to use a more serious reason for a leave.
“Texted my boss to take leave but asking to WFH indirectly,” the post read.
“I’ve been working as a Marketing Coordinator for the past 6-7 months. I barely take leaves. Even if I take leaves, it would be once in a month. It’s a small company with only 2 employees (including myself) working from the office & the rest 2-4 employees working from home. The company has been existing for almost 25yrs. I’ve been having a severe stomach ache since yesterday and I texted my boss this morning for a leave and this is the response I got. He’s asking me to work despite taking a leave. Worst of all, I’m using my own laptop for work when the company has to provide one,” the post further read.
“This sounds like a subtle way of asking someone to work as if they own the company but at the same time pay Peanuts for the work,” the post concluded.
The post was shared on Reddit, by the handle ‘Junaid0010’. The post was shared today and pulled more than 247K views.
“What has he been doing for the last 25 years to have so few employees? And its kind of justified because this is India,” a user said. “25 years in existence and just two employees? Does that company see any growth at all?” asked the second person.
“Please don’t join such sh*tty organizations especially Startups with Lala culture. Stick to MNCs, no matter what. This company seems like it has done nothing in 25 years of any value. Get another job and leave asap,” wrote a third person.
“Say that the stomach ache progressed into severe diarrhea and you were in hospital all day with an IV attached,” commented a forty netizen. “Rule 1 : Don’t say stomach ache. Give reasons where it’s totally impossible for you to work. Like travelling due to family emergencies,” advised another.
