It seems like companies and their HRs have forgotten the difference between termination, firing an employee, and layoff! Or so is what most netizens had to say, after a man narrated a rather ‘discouraging’ interaction he had with an HR during an interview. Taking to Reddit, the man shared about the said interview that he attended. During the interaction, the HR allegedly refused to “deal” with him, as he was laid off from his previous organisation. Not only did she refuse to take the candidate further, but he also allegedly referred to laid off employees as “such people”.
“We don’t deal with such people who got laid off,” the HR had said. Recalling the experience, the Redditor shared that the statement simply left him shocked and even “kinda discouraged”. Later, he highlighted his ongoing EMIs, and stressed on the importance of needing a job soon.
The post went viral and left netizens reacting. Most found the man’s interaction problematic, while some called it a ‘dodged bullet’.

Internet’s reactions:
“Your reply should be ‘That’s fine, I just hope it doesn’t happen to you,” a user said. “OP, don’t be unreasonable. HR nowadays are just bots. They don’t understand the difference between, laid off, fired or terminated,” added a second person.
“I can’t advise on what to do, except to keep applying and giving interviews. Maybe take up part time jobs even at shops,” added another. “NP. don’t fret too much. It’s just one co and 1 hr. keep trying bro. good luck,” added another.
“If an HR says like that again, tell them that it’s good they made it clear that they are not an equal opportunity company and you would not like to work for such companies. Also feel free to name the company here,” another added.
