Microsoft co-founder and philanthropist Bill Gates, in a pep talk, has revealed how one should face one of the all time trickiest question during an interview: “What are your salary expectations?”
Describing how to approach this question, one of the world’s most successful techies and entrepreneurs, Bill Gates advised job seekers not to restrict their answer to a particular figure, but instead offer an explanation that reflects a long-term relationship.
Gates advised aspirants not to give an exact figure but to focus on stock options.
“I hope the option package is good and I’m able to take risks. And I think the company has a great future, so I would prefer to get stock options—even more than cash compensation. I hear some other companies are paying a lot, but treat me fairly and emphasise the options,” said Gates as he advised job seekers.
Bill Gates, who was once the richest man on earth, did not attain that height in life just because of his salary, but also because he held stocks in the company.
Gates’ response to one of the most tricky questions that job seekers face regularly has impressed experts, as it shows a candidate’s trust in a company.
When asked about one job Gates would not prefer to do, he informed that sales and marketing is the one profile he would avoid, as he’s not naturally a salesperson. He would rather enjoy playing a role focused on design and product creation, Bill Gates said.
