Believe it or not, but even US-returness with a Master’s degree and FAANG experience seemingly struggle in India! The internet was left speechless over India’s cut-throat competition for employment, after a rather scary incident surfaced on social media. Taking to Reddit, a man shared about his struggles of finding a job, despite carrying an impressive resume. As per the post, the man has a Master’s degree, along with three years of experience with a FAANG company. However, when he returned to India, thinking that he would soon find another job- his transition was anything but smooth!
As per the post, the man was laid off from his previous organisation and had a two-year gap in his resume, due to relocation. Once he reached India, he began targeting FAANG companies, along with other MNCs, only to get no callback. As per the man, the situation and lack of job opportunities have left him “extremely stressed”, along with questioning his own “resume, role targeting, and expectations.”
Turning to social media, the man asked for advice. Netizens soon began to share their views after the post went viral. Most blamed the competition born out of overpopulation, while some suggested trying other countries as well.
For those not aware, FAANG stands for American tech giants, Facebook (now Meta), Amazon, Apple, Netflix, and Google (now Alphabet).

“Not getting interview calls in India after US FAANG experience. Looking for advice,” the post read.
“I moved back to India after completing my master’s in the US and spending three years at a FAANG company. After being laid off, I returned expecting the transition to be fairly smooth, as I do not require sponsorship and have strong, hands-on experience working on a range of impactful projects. I previously worked in program management, and have been targeting big companies like FAANG and other MNCs in India. But so far, nothing has worked out. I have not received a single interview callback. There is a two year gap on my resume due to the layoff and relocation, and I am starting to wonder if that is what is hurting me the most. I expected my US and FAANG experience to carry weight, but that does not seem to be the case,” the post read.
“This whole situation has been extremely stressful, and I am questioning what I might be doing wrong, whether it is my resume, role targeting, expectations, or something else entirely. If anyone here has gone through something similar, especially moving back to India after working abroad, I would really appreciate any advice or perspective,” added another.

Internet’s reactions:
“Had similar experience, was working in UK, was made redundant, looked out for jobs there, had VISA issues, moved back to India, found a job after 7 8 interviews. Market situation is not that bad tbh but the competition is more and will have to settle with less salary as of now,” a user said.
“It depends on the FAANG. I am assuming you’re an ex Amazonian because other ex FAANG employees are proud of where they worked, particularly Netflix and Google. But Amazon is a sh*t hole. A shit hole where you can make lots of money but a sh*t hole nonetheless. And the management culture is pretty toxic which is why a lot of employers are avoiding ex Amazon now,” added another.
“India is altogether a different beast when it comes to competition. Keep at it, don’t get demotivated. Keep polishing your skills and upskill. All you need is one relevant role. Three years experience is a sweet spot to be in, not entry level and also not very high expectations. Good luck!” added another.
