TCS faces scrutiny over alleged forced resignations linked to internal exams

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) is under growing pressure after fresh allegations surfaced of employees being pushed to resign, including those with as little as two years of service. The concerns, raised by the Forum For IT Employees (FITE), centre on internal exams that workers claim are being used to determine job security rather than evaluate skills.

The Forum reported that a rising number of employees have been asked to leave after these assessments, which they say lack transparency. The forum highlighted the case of a female employee who, despite being denied alimony because of her job at TCS, was dismissed following the exam—leaving her without income or support. Employees argue that the evaluation process offers little clarity and imposes a high passing threshold of 70–80 per cent, which many see as unreasonable.

FITE has demanded that TCS provide access to exam papers and scores so workers can understand how they were assessed. The Forum stated that when an exam can determine someone’s livelihood, employees deserve full visibility into their results.

The situation has reignited broader discussions about labour rights within India’s IT industry. Social-media users have criticised the sector’s flexibility in hiring and firing, arguing that stronger labour laws are needed. Others have pointed to the imbalance created by lengthy notice periods, calling for a standard two-week exit process for employees and fair compensation when workers are terminated abruptly.

As the debate intensifies, FITE continues to push for transparent evaluation practices and safeguards against forced resignations, insisting that urgent reforms are necessary to protect IT employees across the country.
