TCS employee found dead at Pune office campus; police probe underway

A 24-year-old software engineer employed by Tata Consultancy Services was found dead inside a washroom at the company’s office campus in Pune, Maharashtra, in the early hours of Tuesday, police said, adding that initial findings point to a suspected suicide.

The Indian Express reported that the incident occurred at TCS’s facility in the Hinjewadi IT Park area of Pune, a major technology hub on the city’s outskirts. The deceased has been identified as Sujal Vinod Oswal, a resident of the Wanawadi area of Pune.

According to Pimpri Chinchwad police, the body was discovered around 12.30 am during a routine security patrol of the office premises. Security staff alerted company authorities, who then informed the police.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 2) Vishal Gaikwad said preliminary investigations suggest the death may be a case of suicide. He added that early inquiry indicates the individual may have been under financial stress linked to betting-related losses, The Indian Express reported.

Police officials said Oswal had sent a message to family members shortly before his death. An autopsy has been conducted, and investigators are reviewing electronic communications and speaking with family, colleagues and company representatives to establish the sequence of events.

“No signs of foul play have been found so far, but the investigation is ongoing,” a police officer at the Hinjewadi police station said, according to The Indian Express.

Tata Consultancy Services did not respond to a request for comment from the newspaper at the time of publication.

The incident has renewed focus on mental health concerns among young professionals in high-pressure work environments. Police and health authorities continue to urge individuals experiencing distress to seek professional support and assistance.

If you or someone you know is struggling with mental health distress or thoughts of self-harm, professional help is available. In India, support is available through the AASRA helpline (24/7) at 91-22-27546669, and through Kiran, the national mental health helpline, at 1800-599-0019.
