US medical glove plant may create 2,000 jobs in Philippines

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr has called on American investors to expand their presence in the Philippines, highlighting new manufacturing and digital economy opportunities that could create thousands of jobs for the country’s workforce.

The appeal came as a US-based medical glove manufacturer explores plans to establish a production facility in the Philippines, a project that could generate more than 2,000 jobs for Filipino workers.

Speaking during a dinner reception hosted by LT Group Inc. in New York, Marcos said his administration is working to strengthen the country’s investment climate by reducing regulatory barriers and improving ease of doing business.

“We are ready to work with you. The Philippines is open—and I mean that not as a slogan, but as a commitment from my administration,” Marcos said. “We have been working hard to improve our investment climate, cut red tape, make it easier to do business, and build something lasting in our country.”

Earlier, Marcos said he had met with officials from the US Medical Glove Company to discuss plans to build a medical glove manufacturing facility in the Philippines. According to the President, the project would not only create over 2,000 jobs but also strengthen the country’s capacity to produce essential medical supplies locally.

The initiative is also expected to support supply chain stability and enhance the Philippines’ role in the global medical manufacturing industry.

Marcos noted that shifting global supply chains are creating new opportunities for countries such as the Philippines as companies diversify production across multiple markets. He highlighted the country’s skilled and English-speaking workforce, expanding infrastructure, and young population as key advantages for investors.

The government is also investing in industrial zones and manufacturing corridors to position the Philippines as a reliable node in global supply chains, he said.

Beyond manufacturing, Marcos identified opportunities in sectors such as electronics, aerospace components, medical devices, and food processing, all of which could drive future job creation.

He also pointed to growth potential in financial services and the digital economy, noting that fintech, digital payments, microfinance, and insurance products are expanding rapidly as a large portion of the population remains underserved by traditional banking.

The Philippine government is also working to deepen capital markets and attract global technology firms, data centre operators, and hyperscalers as the digital economy continues to grow.

“We are not waiting to be discovered. We are making the case, actively and deliberately, that the Philippines is where you want to be,” Marcos said.

The reception was attended by members of the US-Philippines Society, the US-ASEAN Business Council, the Philippine-American Chamber of Commerce, and US business leaders alongside the Philippine business delegation.
