Bengaluru Techie Making Rs 8 Lakh Monthly Opens Up About Stress, Sleepless Nights; Internet Says 'Stop Complaining'

A 24-year-old techie from Bengaluru has sparked widespread online discussion after revealing the hidden cost of his high-paying job. Despite earning an impressive Rs 8 lakh per month, the young employee says he is grappling with intense burnout, chronic stress, and a severe lack of sleep.

The techie shared his experience in a candid Reddit post, explaining that while his life may appear successful from the outside, the reality is far from ideal. According to him, his demanding schedule involves working more than 12 hours every day, leaving little time for rest or personal life.

Describing his struggles, he wrote, “I work 12+ hours every day, and for the past few months, my sleep has been completely broken. I struggle to fall asleep at night, my mind keeps racing about work, and even when I do sleep, it’s shallow. Most days, I wake up tired and push through.”

He added that the pressure of constant deadlines and the expectation to always remain available have taken a toll on his mental and physical well-being. Weekends, which are typically meant for recovery, no longer provide any real relief.

“From the outside, people assume money equals happiness or peace. But the pressure and expectations are exhausting. I barely have energy for anything outside work,” he noted.

Clarifying his intent, the techie said his post was not meant to boast about his salary but to express genuine concern about his lifestyle and deteriorating health.

The post quickly gained traction, prompting a flood of reactions from other users, many of whom shared similar experiences or offered advice. One user remarked, “People in my knowledge earning near or more than this, don’t look to reddit for such answers, they hire personal psychologist sessions and go for vacations.”

Others suggested practical solutions. “Bhai ₹2 lakh per month spend kar, ek agency hire kar le tera kaam karne ke liye,” one user wrote, advising him to outsource work.

Another said, “Brother atp just delegate your work and be a little relieved.”

“You have to learn to leave work at work. Which, unfortunately, in India is highly discouraged. I’m currently in a similar setting (not earning that much) but working a 100% travelling job with 12-hour days, many of which require standing. On the one day off, I get pretty comatose. I had to learn stretching exercises, some meditation, taking proper supplements and remembering to stay in contact with friends and family,” wrote another commenter.

However, not all reactions were sympathetic. Some users downplayed his concerns, arguing that stress is part of any job. “Grass is always greener on the other side. You don’t get to experience the degree of anxiety and depression that comes with that job but then again which job doesn’t have anxiety these days?,” one person commented.

Another added, “I used to work for 14 hours a day for Rs 38,600/- per month at the start of my career. To build stability and a foundation. Stop complaining and keep doing what you have to.”
