Employee Gets ‘Terminated’ For Reluctance To Work On Sundays; Post Triggers ‘Labour Laws’ Debate

An organisation that gave ‘chill vibes’ at first, allegedly turned into a nightmare for an employee- just two months after joining it! Taking to social media, the employee- a 22-year-old woman- shared about the marketing agency she joined back in October 2024. As per the post, the office environment was ‘chill’ until December 2024. However, what unfolded after, left the woman regretting her decision to join the organisation. As per the woman, her managers- a married couple- started targeting her over ‘office politics’. She was further asked to work on Sundays for quite a few weeks, with no compensation leave during the weekdays. The targeting allegedly only turned grievous after the employee started setting ‘boundaries’. The Redditor also clarified that the office followed a ‘6-day per week’ working pattern, where the hectic scheduling eventually led her to take a sick leave, followed by the employee ultimately getting ‘terminated’ over ‘not working on Sundays’.

Retaliating to the sudden termination, the woman ended up abusing the manager- which only led to an ‘immediate termination’ over ‘foul language’. The woman then proceeded to narrate her ordeal of ‘not getting paid’ for the last month, and turned to the internet community for some suggestions.

The post was quick to go viral, as it triggered the much-controversial debate on ‘workplace toxicity’ and ‘misuse of labour laws’ in India. Times Now could not confirm the exact location or the authenticity of the post.

A few netizens, on the other hand, suggested the woman ‘name and shame’ the company by taking the matter to LinkedIn.

“I (22F) got fired from my job yesterday,” the post read.

The post was shared on Reddit, by the handle ‘SignificantAd1507’. It was shared today and pulled many reactions from people.

“Dude name and shame the company….will add comments on their LinkedIn and every page,” a user read. “Sorry that you had to face this. Sometimes workplaces act as if they are Democratic but it’s all fuss and wuss. Hope you land a better job. #Nameandshame,” added another.

“Good for you that you stood your ground. Definitely sounds like a toxic place, this is the common problem with all these family run businesses and I don’t even wanna start about the agency culture. Maybe the only loss for you would be an experience letter which would’ve been useful for your next job. Anyways now you know when to say NO ! Good luck,” added another.

“Man, you were getting paid in cash? That’s not even a proper company,” wrote a third person. “You need to Name and shame the company on LinkedIn. Tag some of their customers too, so they too know how this company treats their employees. The world is moving towards implementing modern slavery policies at the workplace and here we are asking people to come to work on weekends or work 70 hours a week like that’s normal,” added another.
