A former Meta employee has sparked widespread discussion online after revealing that she voluntarily asked the company to include her in its latest round of layoffs because she no longer felt aligned with the company’s direction.

The employee, who worked as a content designer for Facebook in Los Angeles, shared her experience in a LinkedIn post that has since gained significant attention across social media platforms.

Her post has resonated with many workers in the tech industry, particularly as companies push employees to rapidly adapt to artificial intelligence tools while simultaneously carrying out repeated rounds of job cuts.

‘Meta’s ambitions and my own were in different continents’

Explaining her decision, the former employee said she had spent six years at Meta before concluding that the company’s long-term direction no longer matched her own professional goals.

“I had been there exactly six years, which was longer than 80% of the company. This was not an impulsive decision. For a long time now, Meta’s ambitions and my own were in different continents,” she wrote in the post.

According to her, the decision also coincided with changes in her personal life and broader career priorities.

“I wanted to move on because the timing was right for my personal life, and partly because I hoped it might help save the spot of someone who wanted to stay,” she added.

She also joked that the company may already have planned to include her in the layoffs even before she formally requested it herself.

Employee describes growing AI pressure inside Meta

A major part of her post focused on how workplace culture inside Meta has evolved amid the company’s increasing emphasis on artificial intelligence.

According to the former employee, teams were being strongly encouraged to integrate AI tools into everyday work processes, including prototyping, solving coding issues and automating repetitive tasks.

She suggested that many employees were feeling pressure to constantly adapt to new AI-driven workflows in order to remain professionally relevant.

Her comments also reflected growing concerns across the tech industry about the belief that mastering AI tools alone may become essential for long-term job security.

The post triggered broader conversations online about automation, layoffs and the changing expectations facing workers at major technology companies.

‘Creative is still a thing’

Despite her criticism of some workplace trends, the former employee spoke positively about parts of her experience at Meta, especially projects involving brand voice and localisation work.

She said she now plans to take a short break before searching for new opportunities where creativity and communication skills continue to be valued alongside technology.

“In the short term, I’m taking a breather. After that, I’ll be looking for roles where verbal transparency, strong editorial judgment and cultural savvy are treated as essential and where creative is still a thing,” she wrote.

She added that she wanted to work in environments where communication, editorial judgment and creativity remain important instead of being overshadowed entirely by automation and AI tools.

Social media users share their own layoff experiences

The post quickly attracted reactions from other current and former tech workers who shared similar experiences involving layoffs and workplace uncertainty.
