Ministry of Information and Broadcasting opens enrolment for AI skilling programme, offers 15,000 scholarships

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has opened enrolment for a national AI skilling programme aimed at the creative sector, offering 15,000 scholarships to train participants in emerging technologies.

The initiative is being implemented in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Creative Technologies (IICT), with curriculum support from Google and YouTube. It is designed for individuals in fields such as media, entertainment, animation, gaming and digital storytelling.

According to the official announcement, the programme will follow a two-phase structure combining foundational learning with advanced application.

The first phase will be conducted online and focuses on building core AI literacy. Selected participants will receive access to Google Career Certificates and Google Cloud’s generative AI learning paths. The training is expected to span approximately 33 hours and will cover topics including AI fundamentals, prompting techniques and responsible AI practices.

Participants who complete the initial stage will move to the second phase, which focuses on specialised and practical training. This stage will be delivered through a hybrid format and include project-based learning in storytelling, creative production and the use of advanced AI tools.

The curriculum has been co-developed by IICT and YouTube, and includes modules on platform best practices aimed at improving content reach and engagement. Learners will also gain exposure to tools through guided modules such as Google Developers Codelabs.

The programme will be supported by the “AI Skills House” platform, which will provide structured learning tracks in areas such as generative AI applications, workflow automation and decision-making tools.

IICT is responsible for the nationwide rollout, including curriculum design, candidate outreach and programme execution. The initiative is aligned with the government’s broader focus on integrating AI into content creation and strengthening the creative economy.
