A software engineer who had secured a remote position with a US-based company resigned from his previous job to take up the new opportunity. However, the offer was later revoked, leaving him jobless – a role he had accepted primarily to support his mother and bring financial stability to the family.
“How badly I need to cry? Remote offer revoked after resignation,” said the software engineer, who goes by “Cosmicsgod” online, in Reddit’s “DevelopersIndia” community.
US company revokes job offer
He explained, “Due to the ongoing recession and internal restructuring, the offer was revoked, and I’m now left without any offer.”
“I have 2 years of experience as a Cloud & Backend Engineer,” he further said.
The software engineer shares details about his skill set, stating: “On the DSA side, I’ve solved 330+ problems on LeetCode, and actively participate in contests to keep my problem-solving skills sharp.”
“I have again started applying for so many jobs, but am not hearing back. I don’t want to have a career break on my resume, really looking forward to some suggestions,” he expressed.
The techie, who is in desperate need of a job, also shared his resume on Reddit to land new job opportunities. According to it, he worked as an SDE – CloudOps Engineer for two years at a Gurugram-based firm and interned as a backend developer for two months.
His technical skills include C++, Java, HTML/CSS, JavaScript, and SQL, along with proficiency in tools like VS Code, Git, Eclipse, and Google Cloud Platform. He’s also familiar with Linux, GitHub, OS concepts, Node.js, Numpy, HBase, Elasticsearch, and Windchill. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Chandigarh University.
Reddit flocked to comments section
“Since you have over 2 years of experience, you could try applying through Wellfound or Y Combinator. I was considering those platforms too, but most of the opportunities required at least 2 years of experience, and I only have about one year,” suggested one social media user.
Another joined, “Can’t you take back your resignation and continue in your current job?” The original poster said that he can’t “take back his resignation due to some policies”.
“You are jumping too much, given your experience level. Join a normal Indian company and work like a slave for a few years without jumping,” said a “FAANG guy” with 18 years of experience. He even tagged the software engineer as “nawab”, who is “incompatible with normal indian IT toxic culture”.
The software engineer replied, “I did a 3-month internship during college and worked 2 years at my first company. How am I jumping too much? I have seen people with 3 job switches in 2 years.”
He added that he got the job after clearing all the rounds, explaining, “Money was good, as coming from the middle class, I needed it to support my mother. I saw this as a stability in financial terms, however didn’t expect this outcome. I am not the nawaab kind. I have worked hard to be here, and I can always work hard. Sorry. I am not arguing, but this is just the truth.”
A fourth Redditor expressed, “Damn, market is so bad even guy with skills is struggling after cracking us offer. I am doomed. Wish you all the best, bro. Hope someone from this community helps you out.”
