As artificial intelligence continues to reshape workplaces, a new study reveals that careers requiring strong human interaction remain the most resistant to automation. According to new research by digital agency Eskimoz, emergency medical technicians (EMTs), healthcare social workers and lawyers rank as the top three professions least likely to be replaced by AI.
The analysis assessed occupations based on their automation risk and levels of public interaction, resulting in an “AI Resistance Score” that identifies jobs where human skills are still essential.
EMTs top the list with minimal risk of automation
EMTs rank first with a perfect AI Resistance Score of 100. Their work involves 100% public interaction and only 7% risk of automation, making them the most secure occupation in an AI-driven world. The need for real-time decision-making and empathy in medical emergencies makes their role especially difficult to replace with machines.
Healthcare professionals dominate the top five
Healthcare roles feature heavily at the top. Social workers take second place with a score of 98, thanks to their essential emotional support functions and high levels of interpersonal engagement.
Lawyers follow closely with a score of 86, reflecting their ongoing reliance on public-facing work including legal counsel, advocacy and courtroom appearances. Medical and health services managers take fourth place, recognised for their coordination between patients, staff and administrators.
Construction and HR roles show unexpected resilience
Supervisors in construction trades rank fifth, with a score of 80, due to the need for on-site problem solving and worker management, skills not easily automated. Human resources managers also score well, taking sixth position. Their responsibilities around employee relations and conflict resolution rely heavily on communication and emotional intelligence.
Communication and judgement skills stay in demand
Other top jobs include general and operations managers, maintenance workers, office supervisors and training specialists. These roles blend human interaction with strategic thinking and adaptability, areas where AI still struggles to match human performance. With over 73% of US companies using AI in at least one function, the findings suggest that roles built on trust, communication and judgement remain future-proof.
Human-centred careers will continue to thrive
“The data shows a clear trend—roles with high levels of public interaction and decision-making are the most resistant to AI,” said an Eskimoz spokesperson.
“Healthcare’s strong presence reflects the value of empathy and human touch, which machines cannot replicate.” As automation advances, careers rooted in human connection are likely to remain vital in the modern economy.
